Welcome to Ramblers Hertfordshire & North Middlesex Area
Our area covers Hertfordshire and the London boroughs of Barnet, Enfield and Haringey. It has a wide variety of attractive countryside, from empty rolling farmland in the east, to chalk downland on the Chiltern Hills to the west. The whole area is studded with picturesque villages and ancient market towns. Beyond the built-up southern part there are narrow lanes with little traffic and an extensive, well maintained network of rights of way. It's great walking country. Our London boroughs can also take advantage of easy access to explore London.
What we do...
• Our mission is to deliver the objectives of Ramblers in the Hertfordshire and North Middlesex area. These can be seen in the Ramblers Articles of Association.
• Area Council has representatives from each group and affiliated body, and Officers who are elected at the Area AGM each year. We meet 4 times a year, acting as a link between the national organisation and our Groups. We appoint two delegates to Ramblers General Council where national policy is discussed.
• Stile Journal - We publish a printed journal twice a year, sent to all members.
• Area Footpaths - In this Area, our Footpath Secretaries are Area based rather than Group based, working to protect and enhance the rights of way in Hertfordshire and our three London Boroughs – see Rights of Way section.
• We help protect the countryside in which we walk, through the planning system.
• We run events, such as our Area Walk Day.
Our Groups run varied programmes of walks - see Our Groups page.
